This month, The Sunglass Man caught up with Tom Harwood, an Account Executive for Gatorz sunglasses.

Sunglass Man: We’ve known for a while how sweet Gatorz sunglasses are, but for those who may not know about the brand, can you shed a little light?

Gatorz: We are the original manufacturers of Billet Aluminum Eyewear. Our sunglasses are made from T6 7075 Billet Aluminum (same as military aircraft) with double nickel/silver hinges, Teflon coated screws and tension mounted lenses.

Sunglass Man: What makes them so special?

Gatorz: Gatorz are designed to be extremely durable yet pliable with an adjustable nose piece and a metal insert inside for further adjustments. The unique cooling properties of the aluminum frame prevents fogging without any special coating needed.

You can mix n’ match frame and lens colors for a custom look. We’ve recently updated our choice of lenses which now include G-15 polycarbonate, Polarized, photochromic and our Defender lens (cuts out the high energy blue light) all with 100% UV protection. All are ANZI rated for safety.

Sunglass Man: Anyone we know wearing them?

Gatorz: Gatorz are worn by several athletes like Michael and Marco Andretti, Kurt Busch and Sam Hornish Jr. The Navy and Army parachute teams love em’ too! You can see Gatorz on several television shows on the Discovery Channel, Speed Channel, A&E, and TLC Channel like American Choppers among several others.

Sunglass Man: Which styles should we look out for?

Gatorz: Our ‘Radiator‘ and ‘Wraptor‘ styles are very popular for the extreme sports or just to hang out. We have a new piece called ‘Magnum‘ – this style is oversized with plenty of eye coverage. We also offer our special design model the Velocity for the hard to fit larger heads!
